A touchstone of ‘90s independent cinema, GAS FOOD LODGING follows single mother Nora (Brooke Adams) and her daughters, Trudi (Ione Skye) and Shade (Fairuza Balk), as the trio navigate love, loss, and small‑town struggles in a New Mexico trailer park. Scored to the wail of Dinosaur Jr's J Mascis guitar, indie icon Allison Anders crafts an intimate story of resilience against the longing of a forgotten American landscape.

Arthouse Houston presents a day of public engagement, film exhibitions, and performances at our oldest historic downtown cinema: The Majestic Metro, originally THE RITZ Theatre. Join us for Puttin’ on the RITZ, featuring WHITE CHRISTMAS with live songs from the upcoming TUTS performance and PURPLE RAIN featuring a dance party and contest, plus an interview with “Prince” himself.
WHITE CHRISTMAS Synopsis: Having left the Army following W.W.II, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis team up to become a top song-and-dance act. Davis plays matchmaker, introducing Wallace to a pair of beautiful sisters (Betty and Judy) who also have a song-and-dance act. When Betty and Judy travel to a Vermont lodge to perform a Christmas show, Wallace and Davis follow, only to find their former commander, General Waverly, as the lodge owner. A series of romantic mix-ups ensues as the performers try to help the General.
PURPLE RAIN Synopsis: A victim of his own anger, the Kid (Prince) is a Minneapolis musician on the rise with his band, the Revolution, escaping a tumultuous home life through music. While trying to avoid his truculent father's (Clarence Williams III) mistakes, the Kid navigates the club scene and a rocky relationship with a captivating singer, Apollonia (Apollonia Kotero). But another musician, Morris (Morris Day), looks to steal the Kid's spotlight -- and his girl.
